The gratitude prayer
Quite possibly the most powerful prayer of all.

gratitude prayer

The gratitude prayer is simply telling God thank you for all the things in your life you are thankful for. It is a simple prayer and yet the most powerful of all prayers. Feel free to use the prayer below that I myself use often, or you can make your own. I’ll show you how easy it is.
Did you know? Gratitude and love are the 2 most powerful emotions on earth.

My gratitude prayer

Dear God,

I give thanks for all the amazing gifts you have blessed me with in this life. Thank you for the clouds in the sky and the grass beneath my feet. Thank you for the roof over my head that shelters me from the cold and the food in my stomach that nourishes my body. Thank you for the clothes on my back and the knowledge in my head. Most of all God thank you for your everlasting love, guidance, and understanding. Thank you dear God, thank you.

Gratitude Prayer by E. E. Cummings

I thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(I who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginably You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
- E. E. Cummings

Giving thanks throughout the day

You should give thanks throughout the day, but you do not have to recite this prayer every time you want to give thanks. You can simply take a few seconds to say thank you God for those things that happen throughout the day. For example.
  • Thank you, God, for the sunshine.
  • Thank you, because my car started today on the first try.
  • Thank you for the smile from that stranger.
  • Thank you, for the sunrise.
  • Thank you for my lunch.
  • Thank you for letting me get to work on time.

It only takes a few moments out of your day to say thank you and the impact it will have on your life is more than worth the effort.

Your own prayer

If you don’t want to recite a composed prayer you can create your own prayer of gratitude by simply stating those thing you are grateful for. It doesn’t have to be complicated or even pretty for that matter. It is only important that you give thanks with a grateful heart.

Your own prayer can be as simple as stating all the things you are thankful for today. Your prayer could look something like this.

Dear God,

  • Thank you for my job.
  • Thank you for my mom.
  • Thank you for my dad.
  • Thank you for my siblings.
  • Thank you for my husband or wife.
  • Thank you for my kids.
  • Thank you for my health.
  • Thank you for my home.
  • Thank you for all my great friends.
  • Thank you for this beautiful spring day.
  • Thank you for my new outfit.

You get the picture. A gratitude prayer is simply saying thank you. It doesn’t have to be eloquent. God can here you and He knows what is in your heart. So just speak from your heart and let Him know you are grateful for all that He does and all that He has given you.
