Auto suggestion can be used to reprogram the negative thoughts in your subconscious mind into positive thoughts. The importance of this is in the fact that what you think about you bring about. Everything we have experienced in this life has first resonated in our thoughts.
Short answer: It is the process of changing your thoughts and in the end changing your circumstances through the repetition of positive affirmations.
Long answer: The process in which an individual trains the brain or subconscious mind to believe something it once did not. This is accomplished through repetition of affirmations until those statements are internalized. This process is also referred to as self-hypnosis and auto suggestion and has been used since the early 1920’s to change the way one thinks and perceives the world around them.
You must first carefully choose the messages you are sending to the subconscious mind. You can do this by first writing out a positive affirmation you can repeat to yourself on a daily basis until your belief system has been changed.
The subconscious mind is bombarded by millions of new stimuli every day, through what we see on TV, what we hear on radio, what others are saying, what we see, what we read, or anything else we experience through our five senses. There is no way our minds can hold on to all of this information. Not to mention that, much of this information contradicts itself.
Because of this, our brains have to dump most of this information and only holds onto the information that is important to us by keeping the information that builds on our current beliefs. We build the belief system in our minds by continually responding to the information we deem important.
So, for many of us who are using auto suggestion, it is because we are creating a new belief or else we wouldn’t need this self suggestion technique, which is why we must continually repeat and respond to the new information we are feeding our brains.
Our subconscious mind doesn’t hold onto mere words or empty stimuli. What I mean by this is that if we have no other reaction to the stimuli that is coming to us outside of hearing it, seeing it, touching it, or smelling it. It only responds to those stimuli that you have a strong feeling for. Let me repeat this. YOUR SUBCONCOIUS MIND ONLY HOLDS ONTO THE STIMULI THAT YOU FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT.
Have you ever been brought back to your dads garage by the smell of oil? This is because you associate this smell with what you were feeling when you were in that garage with your dad. Or maybe it’s a song that takes you back to the kitchen were you and your mom used to bake. For me it is “She’s a Man Eater” some of you may remember this song. It always takes me back to dancing in the kitchen with my mom. I don’t know why but, that song must have been popular at the time because it seems like it was always playing when we were in the kitchen.
So, what I want you to do is put some feeling into it. When you are saying your affirmations, I want you to feel the thing you want as if you already have it. Get excited about it, have a cry, if they are happy tears. Find a way to involve your other senses. Image what it looks like, how it smells, how it feels, what it sounds like.
There are different things you can do to help you experience what you want. As I said above you want to feel your statements and you want to involve all of the 5 senses that you can. The following are things you can do to aid in this.
