Spred Your Wings and Fly
So Here we are the start of 2012 and I look back over the past year in amazement. It has only been just over a year ago when I was afraid I would be unable to pay my mortgage. I was caught up in a tidal wave of my own making.
In June of 2010 I had ended a 5 year relationship and was paying all the bills on my own. By that December what little savings I had had all but ran out and I was finally to the place I had been most afraid of. The place where I would be unable to support myself.
Sometimes life has it’s ups and downs and even though we know it is all for the good, we tend to think only of the bad. I knew that I was headed for great things and I knew the end of the relationship had been the best decision for both of us involved. I knew this was a new beginning for both of us, however all I could focus on at the time was what I couldn’t do verses what I was now able to do. I was finally free to expand my wings and fly and yet all I could think about was how I wasn’t flying which sent me plummeting to the ground in a hurry. I was just about to crash and burn, when it happened. A miracle.
A friend gently reminded me of what I always try to instill in others and that is that if I wanted to make it on my own, if I wanted to fly all I had to do was fly. At the time I was currently laid off from work seasonally and was only bringing in a small amount of advertising income from my website. I had only a couple hundred dollars in the bank and my mortgage was due in less than a week. I stood up in front of my friends in a small class I had been taking that consisted of about 60 people. We were all in this class to learn something about what kept us stuck, so they were All aware of my situation. I stood up and said I will fly, I will make my mortgage this month and next and the next and I will increase my income 10 fold. I do not know how, but today I choose to fly. Three days later I took jewelry box full of rings and necklaces to a pawn shop, I had not worn in years, one of which I had bought in my early 20’s as a gift to myself for doing well. I thought it the perfect symbol, that it be used to help me start again. The first pawn shop I went to wanted to offer me only half of what I need to pay my mortgage. I did some research and found a reputable dealer and the day before my mortgage was due I pawned my jewelry for 100 dollars more than what I needed to cover my mortgage.
I had never had to pawn anything and it was heartbreaking, the thought of it, but the minute it was done, I felt liberated. I immediately paid my mortgage and began at once to work on how I would continue to pay my mortgage. It has been a year now since I first made the decision to fly and in that year, I managed to get a promotion at my job that increased my income just enough to cover my bills and cut my layoff period in half. It is also a position that I fully enjoy. On top of that I now have two websites and I have managed to increase my website earnings by 10 times. 10 times in case you didn’t catch that the first time, and the best part is all I do is write about what I love and believe in.
Now I could go on and on about all the other great areas of my life, but really there is no need. I am not just flying, I am soaring and All because I made the decision to do so. When I stood up in front of the room and said I will fly, I had no idea how, I just new I would and that is the attitude you need to have. Make the decision to fly this year and the rest will come. Have faith in your own power and take the first step, the next step will present itself when the time comes. You don’t have to have it all figured out you just have to know you can do it and you will do it.
Go now and fly…
